Game Recap - July 27, 2010
A high scoring affair treated the fans to game three of the first round playoff matchup between the Kodiaks and the Redmen. The Kodiaks battled back twice to tie the game 4-4 and 12-12, but let the winning goal for the Redmen in with about eight and-a-half minutes left in the game. The Kodiaks valiantly tried to tie the game, but it was not meant to be.
The Redmen got out to a quick 4-1 lead in the first period, only to see the Kodiaks tie it with 80 seconds left. The Redmen began the second period with 4 in-a-row and outscored the Kodiaks 7-4 in the middle frame. The Kodiaks did outscore the Redmen 4-2 in the third, but it was not enough to tie the game.
The Kodiaks have not lead at all in the first three games of the series, something they must change in game four to have any chance of getting at least one win.
Kodiak goal scorers included: Dave Cutten (1), Ryan Learn (1), Kasey Beirnes (1), Jay Thorimbert (1), Dan Williams (2), Corey Small (3), and Mark Tinning (3).
Game Recap - July 23, 2010
The Brooklin Redmen took game one of the playoffs with a 9-7 victory Friday night at the Waterloo Memorial Rec Complex. The Kodiaks will definitely have to play better on Sunday night in game two if they want to emerge past the first round. The Redmen scored the first two goals of the game, but the Kodiaks managed to end the first period with a 3-3 tie. The second period was similar with the Redmen scoring three times, and then the Kodiaks matched it with three of their own. The third period was the deciding one as the Redmen came up with three more in-a-row, with the Kodiaks only mustering one late goal to give the Redmen the 9-7 victory. Redmen top scorer was Kevin Brownell (3,1) while the Kodiaks top scorer was Kasey Beirnes (2,2)
Kodiak goal scorers included: Kasey Beirnes (2), Andrew Potter (2), Anthony Lackey (1), Jay Thorimbert (1), and Mark Tinning (1).
Game Recap - July 20, 2010
The Kodiaks came up with a big win Tuesday night, defeating the Six Nations Chiefs 10-9, in a rough game at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex. The Kodiaks finished the first period with a 3-1 lead, and grew the lead to 5-1 early in the second, on a couple goals each by Garrett Kerr and Brad Favero.
But the Chiefs managed to rattle off four goals in a row to tie the game, only to have the Kodiaks score three to end the second period with an 8-5 lead. Early in the third the Chiefs narrowed the gap to one, with a couple goals, only to have the Kodiaks regain their 3 goal lead, 10-7 with two of their own.
The Chiefs made the game very interesting scoring two goals in the final two minutes, narrowing the lead to 10-9, as well as scoring what they thought was the tying goal with 11 seconds left, only to be waved off no goal.
Kodiak goal scorers included: Brad Favero (3), Garrett Kerr (2), Dan Williams (1), Jesse Gamble (1), Travis Bland (1), Justin Wilson-Kirby (1) and Andrew Potter (1).
Game Recap - July 13, 2010
It was an unlucky July the 13th for the Kodiaks, as they lost 7-3 to the Ajax-Pickering Rock. Three goals by the Kodiaks ties their season low, way back on the first game against Brampton. Missing an open net in the first period, hitting many posts, along with some spectacular saves by Rock goalie Pat Campbell, prevented the Kodiaks from getting a bigger lead in the standings over Brooklin and Ajax.
Kodiak goal scorers included: Matt Quinton (1), Ryan Learn (1), and Mark Tinning (1).
Game Recap - July 6, 2010
The Kodiaks came away with another home victory on Tuesday night with an 8-5 victory over the Ajax-Pickering Rock. Twice the Rock were able to battle back against the Kodiaks, in the first period after the Kodiaks got out to a 2-0 lead, the Rock scored twice. In the second period the Kodiaks mounted a 5-2 lead, only to have the Rock score 3 in the final half of the period. Finally in the third period, the Kodiaks scored 3 times and were able to shutdown Ajax from getting any by netminder Mike Poulin in the final frame.
Kodiak goal scorers included: Correy Small (3), Ryan Learn (1), Andrew Potter (1), Jay Thorimbert (1) and Mark Tinning (2).
Game Recap - June 15, 2010
The Kodiaks crushed the Brooklin Redmen 17-8 on Tuesday night, the most lopsided win so far this season of any game. Only 2:36 into the first period and the Kodiaks had a 3-1 lead, extending it to 5-3 after the first period and 11-5 after the second period. The Kodiaks outscored the Redmen 6-3 in the third period, topping off a solid offensive game.
Kodiak goal scorers included: Correy Small (4), Kasey Beirnes (3), Brad Favero (2), Ryan Learn (2), John Harnett (2), Andrew Potter (1), Jesse Gamble (1), Dan Williams (1) and Mark Tinning (1).
Game Recap - June 13, 2010
The Kodiaks lost a tight game on Sunday night, 10-9 against Peterborough in overtime. The Kodiaks maintained a lead through most of the game, 4-1 after the first period and 7-4 after the second period, but a goal by Scott Evans of the Lakers with 59 seconds left in regulation sent the game to overtime. The only goal of overtime came 2:40 into the period, and the Kodiaks could not even it up.
Kodiak goal scorers included: John Harnett (2), Dan Williams (1), Matt Quinton (2), Dave Campbell (1), Andrew Potter (1), Anthony Lackey (1), Travis Bland (1).
Game Recap - June 8, 2010
The Kodiaks persevered on Tuesday night emerging with their first win of the season, beating the Brampton Excelsiors 12-10. The Kodiaks came out fast, building a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game, only to have the Excelsiors score 4 goals in less than 3 minutes to tie the score. The Kodiaks built a 10-6 lead early in the third period, only to have the Excelsiors score 3 in-a-row to narrow the lead to just one goal for the Kodiaks. But the Excelsiors could not complete the comeback and the Kodiaks can now enjoy a win this season.
Kodiak goal scorers included: Corey Small (3), Andrew Potter (2), Matt Quinton (2), Jesse Gamble (1), Kasey Beirnes (1), John Harnett (1), Mark Tinning (1), Brad Favero (1). Andrew Potter also tallied 5 assists.
Game Recap - June 1, 2010
In their second home game of the season, the K-W Kodiaks fell to the Peterborough Lakers 11-5 on Tuesday June 1st. The Lakers got out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first period, only for the Kodiaks to comeback and tie the game at 4-4 just past the halfway mark. The Lakers then took control of the last half of the game scoring 6 goals to the Kodiaks 1 goal.
Kasey Beirnes was a bright spot for the Kodiaks scoring 3 goals and adding 2 assists. Other goal scorers for the Kodiaks included: Ryan Learn (1) and Corey Small (1). Corey Small also added 4 assists.
